The 5 Best Weed Products for Sleep Awareness Week

At KindPeoples Weed Dispensary, we are obsessed with getting amazing sleep, and are passionate about helping our Santa Cruz community do the same. Good, productive sleep is integral to living a healthy life, but for millions of individuals, achieving quality sleep can feel near impossible.

In preparation for National Sleep Awareness Week, KindPeoples Santa Cruz Dispensary is answering some common questions about using cannabis for sleep and sharing 5 of the best weed sleep products to help you get great sleep all year long.

These dreamy weed sleep products never stay on our shelves long so when you see them at KindPeoples Ocean Street or KindPeoples Soquel Avenue, we recommend you grab them.

Why Does Weed Make Me Sleepy?

The cannabis plant is full of naturally occurring chemical compounds that are powerful sleep agents like the cannabinoids, CBN, THC, CBD, and terpenes, linalool, beta-caryophyllene and myrcene.

CBN is known as the sleep cannabinoid and is present in many of the sleep-focused products on our menu. CBN’s most pronounced, characterizing attribute is its sedative effectives; however, research shows CBN alone may not promote sleepiness. Rather, it’s likely the combination of CBN with THC that produces its sedative effects.

THC has the capacity to produce feelings of relaxation, reduce feelings of anxiety and depression, and generally has calming and sleep-inducing effects. It’s important to note that dose size matters with THC; too large a dose may cause a person to feel more alert or anxious, inhibiting their ability to fall asleep.

While CBD doesn’t directly help consumers achieve sleep, it does help calm anxiety and inflammation in the body, both of which are common obstacles to achieving quality sleep.

The cannabis plant is full of hundreds of terpenes, but linalool, beta-caryophyllene and myrcene, are the most well-known for producing feelings of relaxation and drowsiness.

Does Indica Make You Tired? Does Sativa Keep You Awake?

In general, Indica strains are described as providing a sedating, relaxing, heavy body high, best for night-time use whereas Sativa strains are described as providing a euphoric, energizing, and cerebral head high, best for day-time use. However, some people find that the opposite is true. Ultimately, finding the right cannabis products and weed strains that work for you is all about exploration. Our expectation is that you’ll notice Indica benefits your sleep more, but if you’re wondering, will sativa keep me from sleeping, the best answer we can give you is while that typically isn’t the case, the only way to find out for sure is to try some sativa strains and see for yourself.

Is It Okay to Take Melatonin and Weed?

If you’re new to cannabis consumption, our recommendation is to start by consuming the cannabis on its own at first so you can familiarize yourself with how the cannabis alone affects you. Once you’re comfortable, if you feel like you need melatonin to help you sleep, explore if that gives you the affects you seek. If you have any concerns though, it’s always best to discuss with your doctor.

There are some edible brands that include melatonin in their products. In fact, edibles can contain a variety of ingredients other than cannabinoids and terpenes that may be beneficial for sleep, including magnesium, chamomile, glycine, lemon balm, valerian root, vanilla and more.

We love using THC Gummies for sleep because they’re easy to fit into our nightly routine. Additionally, a tin of THC gummies can be easily stored in a bedside table, thrown in a bag when traveling, and are just generally convenient. At KindPeoples Weed Dispensary, we’re huge fans of these Tranquility Kanha Gummies because the trio of cannabinoids, CBN, CBD and THC, work together synergistically to induce drowsiness while reducing anxiety and inflammation. With 5 mg of each cannabinoid, these Kanha Gummies are some of the best weed gummies for sleep, and thanks to the CBD content, they’re also great edibles for anxiety too.

We love using THC gummies for sleep so much we can’t resist shouting out a few of our other favorites. We also love the Midnight Blueberry and Blackberry Dream Camino Gummies, the Eldeberry Wyld Gummies and the Heavy Hitters Lights Out CBN and THC Gummies to drift off the dreamland.

When you inhale cannabis, the cannabinoids go directly into your lungs, allowing the effects to be felt almost instantly. This makes weed pens and weed pods a particularly good option for those that have trouble falling asleep or waking up in the middle of the night.  One of our employees at KindPeoples Cannabis Dispensary remarked that they like to keep a vape pen on their nightstand to hit before bed, and quickly in the middle of the night if they wake up and have trouble getting back to sleep. One of our favorite Vape Cartridges for Sleep is the Midnight Cherry CBN Vape Pen from Heavy Hitters. It has a 3:1 THC:CBN ratio and knocks us right out even on the nights when sleep tries its hardest to evade us.

We also love the Rest Weed Cartridges from Timeless Vapes. Explore Weed Vape Pens at KindPeoples Ocean Street and KindPeoples Soquel Avenue
